Hand Catching Lead (Video 1979) constitue une mise en abyme du dispositif cinématographique.
À partir des années 1960, l'art minimal de Richard Serra, s'attachant à interroger les notions de processus et de matérialité, s'enrichit d'un nouveau médium : le film. Ici on voit la main de l'artiste essayant d'attraper des feuilles de plomb qui tombent, métaphores des photogrammes tirés vers le bas lors de la projection filmique.

Joseph Beuys refers to Steiner who speaks of the bee: (...) holy, because in all her work she makes manifest the inner processes of man himself. If we take a little beeswax, we really have an intermediate product between blood, muscle and bone. It penetrates through wax into the human body. The wax never hardens but remains fluid until its possible transformation into blood, muscle or bone cells.In the wax, we see the same forces as inside ourselves (...).
